Huddersfield-born Luther Burrell is full of belief that he can finally get his first England cap at the Six Nations.

England start their campaign with a trip to France in Paris on Saturday, February 1 as head coach Stuart Lancaster is faced with an injury headache, including the centre position.

Lancaster believes backline trio Ben Foden, Marland Yarde and Manu Tuilagi are less likely to find fitness during the Six Nations, paving the way for a possible Burrell starting berth.

The Northants inside centre is favourite to partner Billy Twelvetrees. But with Twelvetrees continuing at No12, Burrell is expected to be handed the No13 shirt – something that doesn’t faze him at all.

“No13 is probably the most important defensive position on the pitch,” revealed Burrell.

“In terms of positioning and looking after that channel, it’s crucial.

“I’ve had a bit of experience of playing there before at Leeds, and I’ve played at 13 in some of the training sessions at previous England camps.

“I’d be more than happy to take on that responsibility.

“I’m desperate to play and if that comes at 13 then great. It’s the defensive side of things that will be the biggest difference, you can’t get too wide and you have to organise.”
