Old Rishworthians produced one of their strongest showings of the season as they beat Leodiensians 34-5 at their Copley home.

Rishworthians’ first half display was their best Yorkshire II performances as they got their try bonus point before half-time.

It was all change in the second half though as the visitors’ pack took charge and Rishworthians let in one try but hung on and then scored again to kill off the game.

Rishworthians scored early when player-coach Damian Ball gathered a long kick and put centre Taniela Bakoso away, he linked with fellow centre Kurt Sutcliffe who cut inside to score.

Right wing Joe Billing converted and soon after added a penalty.

Rishworthians got a second try as full-back Matthew Hunt-Brown burst into the line to put left wing Anthony Shoesmith in at the corner.

Good interpassing between Ball, Billing and scrum half Gary Morris was then finished off by lock Nick Faulkner – Billing again converted.

Rishworthians’ bonus point try arrived just before the break and was down to great work by the forwards.

The ball came wide and Billing, with a one-handed offload, put Sutcliffe in for his second try near the corner.

Leodiensians upped their game in the second half and eventually forced their way over for an unconverted try.

Rishworthians continued to defend grimly until finally forcing their way into the visitors’ half.

The home won a penalty, took it quickly and Bakoso found Hunt-Brown on the burst and he put Shoesmith away for his second try – Billing added the conversion and ended the Leos fightback.
