It was another late loss by the narrowest of margins for Old Rishworthians who went down 17-16 at Goole In Yorkshire II.

Once flanker Chris Dyson gave them the lead on the stroke of half-time, it looked as if Rishworthians might be on their way to the points.

But they allowed the home pack to take control of much of the second half and had to defend well until, down to 14 men, they conceded a converted try.

They started well and two penalties by Joe Billing gave them a six-point lead.

The home side came back and a move ended in the corner and while both teams did not think a try had been scored, the referee gave it.

The conversion was missed but soon after Goole moved the ball wide to score a good try in the same corner – again unconverted.

Billing reduced the arrears to a point then player-coach Damian Ball slipped the ball to Dyson in midfield and he completed a strong 50-yard run to dive and slide over the line. Billing converted to end the half up 16–10.

In the second half they were soon forced to defend close to their line for a long period before finally breaking clear.

Andy Shickell was yellow-carded for a high tackle and the penalty took play back to the Rishworthian line.

A catch and drive was held up, but the ball was scrambled over for a try and the conversion proved the killer blow.

In the closing minutes two long range penalty efforts from Billing were unsuccessful.
