Huddersfield ran rampant in top of their table clash against Burnage in National III North.

On their home Lockwood Park track, Huddersfield scored five tries in what had been expected to be a close fought game.

The first try came in the form of a close range sniping effort from scrum half Joel Hinchliffe, which was converted by fly half Tom Hodson, and from that point on Huddersfield were on top form playing quick and expansive rugby.

Team manager Lee Paxman said: “We’ve shown the potential in certain games up until now, and with a much better performance which came right through.

“The boys came out the blocks quickly in the first half and getting some early points really settled them.”

There were strong performances from many players, including winger Adam Sutcliffe. Called up from the second team, he came off the bench to score two outstanding tries.

Paxman added: “Towards the end Burnage seemed to lose stamina and our outside backs, with their extra gas, just finished it off.”

Flanker Ben Hoyle did receive a yellow card and Burnage put Huddersfield to the sword during the 10 minutes.

The visitors scored their only try during this time, but when Hoyle returned he made amends with hard running and even harder hits.

“There were good performances throughout up the middle and Hoyle is everywhere like a machine – just never stopping,” added Paxman.

Other tries came from winger Ben Mitchell and centre Michael Clarke, with Hodson converting four conversions and three penalties.
