Huddersfield’s senior academy side put up a valiant effort as they were beaten 15-10 by last season’s national cup runners-up Nuneaton in a pre-season friendly at Lockwood Park.
Nuneaton, who knocked Huddersfield out of the cup, were soon trailing to an Olly Scrimshaw penalty, but scored three tries for a 15-3 half-time lead.
Second row Stephen Romaniewicz forced his way over in the second half and fly half Tom Owen added the conversion.
Huddersfield hold their annual junior registration/open day on Sunday.
The event is being sponsored by the Monsoon Restaurant at Slaithwaite.
The junior sections range from seven to 17 and this is a great opportunity for people to have a look at the set-up, meet the players and the coaches and also get involved in an open training session.
That runs from 10.30 until noon, and participants should bring appropriate clothing.
Club officials will be on hand to deal with any inquiries and registration will officially start at noon.
Showcasing the junior section are the Under 17s, who take on Morley at 1.00.
Spectators are welcome and the clubhouse will be open all afternoon. There will be a dj on duty and a barbecue.
