Confident Huddersfield YMCA player-coach Mark Whitehead believes last weekend’s enforced break could help fire his club to a strong end-of-season National III North charge.

A frozen Laund Hill pitch forced the postponement of last Saturday’s home clash against Sandal.

A number of YM men would have gone into that West Yorkshire derby carrying injury niggles.

But with extra rest and recuperation under their belts, Whitehead is expecting his side to come out all guns blazing in tomorrow’s home date with Rossendale (3.00).

“Last week’s break could have come at just the right time,” said Whitehead.

“Judging by the two decent training sessions we’ve held this week, it would certainly appear as if it’s done the trick.

“Numbers have been good and the boys have had an extra spring in their step. Most of the niggles appear to have cleared up.

“So hopefully this will be reflected in our performances against Rossendale.

“They’re a team who like to keep it tight. They’ve got a bit set of forwards and play to their strengths on their narrow pitch.

“Our pitch is obviously a wide one and we like to play an open game, which is our strength.

“If we come out all guns blazing and don’t get dragged into a midfield battle, then I know we have the side capable of doing a very good job on them.”

Whitehead has kept faith with the same line-up that would have faced Sandal last weekend, enabling forward Sam Hodge an extra week to make a full recovery from a bout of concussion.
