Some 250 youngsters took part in a series of cross-country races to the delight of huge crowds.

The event was held at Thurstonland Endowed First School as part of a series of athletics meetings from primary schools in the Shelley College pyramid.

A first event was held at Shepley First School and the next one will be next May at Denby.

Schools taking part included Thurstonland, Cumberworth, Shepley, Flockton, Kayes, Gilthwaites, Shelley and Farnley Tyas.

The young runners were put through their paces at Thurstonland Cricket Club and on playing fields adjoining the sports complex.

Headteacher Mrs Christine Kirtion said: “It was a very popular event.“There were some really good races and big crowds to watch”.
