ADAM MALTHOUSE is the latest to agree terms for next season at Huddersfield Rugby Union Club.

The former Bradford & Bingley second row has been one of many National II North successes this season at Lockwood Park.

Coach Gareth Lewis – preparing his side for Saturday’s final match of the campaign at home to Chester – is delighted the 22-year-old has elected to stay after being impressed by his strong ball-carrying and line-out leadership.

Lewis commented: “I’m very happy Adam is with us again next season.

“He has had an excellent first season and is really growing into the role of line-out captain.

“With a strong pre-season under his belt, I think we’ll see even better performances from him next season.”

Lewis also announced that returning to the club next season will be highly-respected Strength and Conditioning coach Rob Leighton.

He will play a full part in the club’s preparations for the next league campaign and Lewis has been looking for someone to take up this specific role – a candidate with the right credentials and the ideal ‘fit’ for the squad – for several months.

“We are very lucky that Rob has agreed to rejoin us,” said Lewis.

“He came personally recommended with all his qualities and the right credentials two seasons ago and did an outstanding job with the players.

“They really responded to him first time around and I’m sure he’ll have us in top shape for the start of next season.”

For now, Lewis’s focus is on signing off the present campaign with a victorious performance against Chester in front of the home faithful.

“Way back in September we pushed Chester all the way and lost narrowly,” said the coach.

“They have been consistently in the top six and are a good side.

“It’s been a long, physically demanding season but each and every one of the boys have really shown what they are capable of.

“It all bodes well for the future, and all I ask now is for one last effort to finish the season on a high.”
