Huddersfield YMCA will hand a debut to Under 17 player Sheldon McFadden for their crucial National III North trip to Hull.

McFadden has been part of a YM squad doing extra training this week as they target two wins out of the final four matches to avoid relegation.

Three go down from the division and YM are currently third from bottom, but just two points behind fourth-bottom Cleckheaton.

Director of rugby, Damon Scholes, says the players have wanted to put in the additional preparation work because they are so focused on avoiding the drop.

Sam Fletcher switches from full-back to scrum half this week in the absence of the unavailable Simon Wilson, and Adam Ryder will captain the side at the Ferens Ground.

YMCA haven’t played since their miserable 25-23 home defeat to bottom club Burnage, and Scholes explained: “If we play like that again then we are in for a tough outing.

“Considering how well we played in the previous game to win at Birkenhead Park, it was very disappointing, but the lads are keen to put that behind them and that’s why they’ve been putting in the extra training.

“Fortunately, other results went for us last week, so our destiny is still in our own hands.

“Looking at all the fixtures for clubs, I believe if we can get two wins out of the four games against Hull, Billingham, Ilkley and Sheffield then we will stay up – so it’s down to us.”

In addition to Wilson being unavailable at Hull, James Bell and Nathan Chappell are also injured.
