Shepley captain Danny Glover will play a part in England’s World Cup cricket campaign.

The opening bowler has spent this winter playing for the Naenae club in Wellington and has been asked to bowl in the nets against international squads when they are in New Zealand.

England, of course, launch the competition against Australia in Melbourne next Friday before going on to Wellington and Christchurch for matches against New Zealand, Scotland and Sri Lanka.

Glover, who has helped Shepley to Byrom Shield, Sykes Cup and Heavy Woollen Cup successes in recent years, is delighted to have been invited to bowl at some of the top stars in the world.

“It’s a real privilege to be asked to bowl at the World Cup players and I’m looking forward to it,” he said.

“There are some three-hour sessions at the Basin Reserve on dates throughout this month and next and it will be great to be involved.”

England will be at the Basin Reserve – the city’s Test ground – for warm-ups on February 16 and 17 and New Zealand will join them on the following two days before the nations meet at the Westpac Stadium (the rugby ground) on Friday, February 20.

After playing Scotland on the South Island in the midweek, England return to Wellington for net sessions in the last week of February before taking on Sri Lanka at the Westpac on Sunday, March 1.

Glover and his fellow net bowlers will get tickets for the match between UAE and South Africa on March 12, and they will help both of those teams prepare, before waiting to know which quarter-finals teams will be in Wellington.
