Shepley could be the place to be on Tuesday evening when the Drakes League T20s start.

That’s because Danny Glover’s side – third in the Drakes Premiership right now – host holders Hoylandswaine in the allroundcricket.com sponsored T20 Trophy for top-flight clubs (6.30).

Swaine, having been knocked out of both the Sykes Cup and Black Sheep Yorkshire Champions Trophy, will be determined to hold onto their shortest-format crown, which they won against Barisland at Broad Oak last summer.

They have a powerful line-up who are just one point behind Scholes in the race to defend the Byrom Shield, and Swaine rarely need an excuse to cut loose with bat in hand.

Gharib Nawaz and SP Singh may have missed out against Skelmanthorpe in the league last weekend, but they shared a second-wicket stand of 129 from 117 balls against Yorkshire Academy in the Black Sheep. It included a 45-ball 50 by Nawaz, which is actually quite slow by his standards, and his colleagues Max Joice and Alan Mynett also posted half centuries – Joice of 38 balls and Mynett off 46 as they shared an eighth-wicket partnership of 94 from 70.

Throw into the mix Alex Morris, Ryan Robinson, Yasir Abbas, the destructive Ben Potter and highly-capable Richard Wilkinson and Kesrick Williams and there are runs from No1 to No11.

Shepley, meanwhile, are not short of a run-scorer or two and they’ll be looking to Tom Denton to produce his array of shots alongside Aussie Christian Smith (inset), who will be making his debut in the competition.

Dan Wood and Amar Rashid are also capable of turning any game, while Glover has been performing solidly in the middle order.

In the allroundercricket.com T20 Shield for teams outside the Premiership, the pick of six preliminary round ties is Rastrick v Cawthorne, with the Cedar Court Conference hosts getting an immediate chance to gain revenge for their Oddfellows Cup defeat to the Jedi Sports Championship leaders.

Tuesday’s T20 Trophy fixtures: Golcar v Barkisland, Honley v Elland, Shepley v Hoylandswaine, Shelley v Skelmanthorpe, Slaithwaite v Delph, Meltham v Holmfirth, Scholes v Moorlands, Broad Oak v Kirkburton.
