Sixteen Drakes Huddersfield League clubs have still not registered for an essential child welfare course.

Every club must have a child welfare officer and they have to have attended a Safe Hands training course (formerly known as Time to Listen).

So far, 22 of the Drakes League’s 38 clubs have responded to send a CWO to the league course being run at Slaithwaite CC on Wednesday 18 and Thursday 19 of June (6.30).

League child welfare officer Roger Peaker is still waiting to hear from the rest, including three of the new clubs – Cartworth Moor, Upperthong and Thurstonland.

“The course lasts about two hours and costs £15 per person, and it’s an ECB ruling that all clubs must be covered in this area,” said Peaker.

“We have even had inquiries from clubs from other leagues while 16 of our own clubs have still to get back to us despite being e-mailed all the information.”

Clubs should contact Peaker by Saturday at the latest on rpeaker@yahoo.com or 07889 847055.

All captains, team managers, coaches, umpires and scorers over 18 must have a current DBS Certificate (formerly known as CRB).

Like the Safe Hands certificates, the DBS last only three years and then must be refreshed.
