Slaithwaite athlete Jess Hirst picked up a gold and two bronze medals at the Yorkshire Track and Field Championships at Dorothy Hyman Stadium.

Now in the Under 17 age group, Hirst was competing against athlete’s up to 18 months older but still won gold with a personal best and championship record of 44.33m in the hammer.

She started with bronze in the discus with 30.72m, missing silver by 6cms, and finished with bronze in the shot putt (11.59m).

She is now looking forward to the West Yorkshire Schools and hopefully the English Schools, concentrating on the hammer.
