Spear Taekwondo Club enjoyed a ‘golden’ haul with plenty of trophy winners at a competition in South Yorkshire.

The Skelmanthorpe club, who have just celebrated their first anniversary, took a team of 13 to the Ultimate One-to-One competition in Barnsley.

With 10 victories the club produced outstanding results, but it was the way the team performed as a whole which gave the Spear coaching team the greatest satisfaction.

Club chairman Alan Needham said: “It was a significant day as the whole team were new to competition and understandably both kids and parents were nervous of the unknown”.

Alex Needham of Spear Taekwondo in Skelmanthorpe hands out instructions to Liv Harrison

Chief instructor third Dan Alex Needham added: “We knew the team had trained hard and in my brother Tim and Liv Harrison I know we have great coaches.

“It’s always an unknown whether that will translate into positive performances and results in competition and the team far out performed our expectations.

“With 10 victories we came away with outstanding results but it was the way the team as a whole performed which gave the coaching team the greatest satisfaction.

“While all our players were novices, compliments came from other coaches who noted how well Spear members had done.”
