I suppose the signs were there on the opening day of the Championship campaign, although we were far more concerned about ourselves after that 4-0 home defeat by Bournemouth.

But Eddie Howe’s side have maintained their form and play host to Bolton Wanderers tonight aiming to take another huge step towards the Premier League.

It’s hard to imagine top-flight football taking place at Dean Court, or the Goldsands Stadium as it is known these days.

But the name of the ground isn’t the only thing which has changed at the South Coast club.

There has been investment from a Russian owner which has helped push them to the brink of the highest level for the first time.

But you can’t take away from the job done by Howe, a former Bournemouth player who is in his second spell as manager.

He got them out of League II, then League I, before becoming Burnley boss.

And since his return, he has lifted them back out of League I and after establishing the club in the Championship, has put them within touching distance of the Premier League.

After Bolton, it’s Charlton Athletic away next Saturday, when we end our campaign at Blackpool.

Two wins will guarantee Bournemouth promotion, regardless of what is happening elsewhere.

Bournemouth are unbeaten in 10, and have won seven of those games.

They were held 2-2 at home to Sheffield Wednesday last time out, but before that, earned good wins against Birmingham City, Brighton and Reading.

I’d really like to see them succeed, and I think their presence in the Premier League would be a real breath of fresh air.

It’s a great place for away supporters to visit for a weekend, and how fantastic would it be for home fans to see the country’s best at their own compact ground?

I always remember a game there when Lou Macari was manager.

We started the match really well and were three up at half-time.

It had been totally one-sided, but as we went off, while some sets of fans would have jeered, their supporters gave Bournemouth a huge cheer, and again when they came out for the second half.

They got one back quite early, then another midway through.

We hung on for the win, but it really struck me what a difference supporters can make
