It's incredible in our fantastic summer of  sport that the Tour de France seems to be  capturing very few headlines.

Next year, of course, the Grand Depart is right here  in Yorkshire and, indeed, the route comes through  Huddersfield and the Holme Valley.

Even though plenty of our regional media have been  and covered this year’s event, I don’t think we quite  realise in this neck of the woods what an honour it is to  have the Tour de France starting here.

It just seems  people are thinking ‘oh, that’s  something in 2014’ but, when it comes to cycling, there  is nothing bigger.

You could argue, in fact, that winning gold medals  at the Olympics and World Championships is  insignificant compared with winning the Tour.

This year, of course, Chris Froome is aiming to  emulate what Sir Bradley Wiggins did in 2012 and, up  to now, he is doing incredibly well.

In an event like the Tour, it’s very much about the  whole team working together to take the lead rider,  helping to put him in the best position and then  delivering him to the finish line.

The other day, though, Froome’s team fell apart for  one reason or another and he was left on his own on  Stage Nine, but he had the physical and mental  strength to keep going and not lose any time on his  main rivals.

I really do hope Froome can keep going in the  yellow jersey and bring another title back to this  country.

That really would be a fantastic thing for us to  celebrate in Yorkshire when we launch next year’s Tour  de France – and let’s hope we’ve got similar weather to  now for the big event!

I can't let the week pass  without congratulating Andy  Murray on winning  Wimbledon.

Following on from his  Olympic success and triumph  in the US Open, his second  major basically means he has  proved all he needs to.

He can now relax and focus  on winning more top titles,  because anything that now  happens for him on a tennis  court is a bonus.

Perhaps we should also  remember the contribution of  the National Lottery to  funding our sports from  grass-roots upwards.

That cash has been vital in  the past to so many of our  current stars, so just  remember that next time you  pay your £1.
