So now it’s the one we’ve all been waiting for!

When the fixtures come out in the middle of June, most Town fans look for two dates in particular.

One is Leeds United away and the other is Leeds United at home.

And this season, with us both being in the bottom half of the Championship table, this Saturday’s derby at the John Smith’s Stadium perhaps takes on even more significance.

You always want to win against your neighbours and rivals, obviously, but many will be looking at this upcoming match as something of a ‘six pointer’ because of how the standings are in the division.

We’ve had some cracking matches against each other over the last few years and, after the result at Elland Road earlier this campaign, when we went down 3-0, our fans will feel that we owe Leeds one and will be desperate for us to get the three points.

As players, I know the lads will be up for it.

I always loved derby matches because of the build-up and the fact you could guarantee a tremendous atmosphere.

We will have a lot of support on our home turf, Leeds are bringing a sell-out following across from Elland Road and if the match lives up to the last few we’ve had against Leeds here at the John Smith’s then it will be very entertaining.

Preparations will be as normal, obviously, as far as training is concerned but we are still in the transfer window, so who knows who might be turning out for either side?

It’s great that we’ve been able to welcome David Edgar to our club and, with all the work the directors are doing behind the scenes, maybe we’ll have another new face in the team by the time the derby comes around.

It doesn’t always work out like that because transfers are complicated to sort out and, as I have always said, there is no point doing any business just for the sake of it.

It’s all about getting the right quality at the right price, and there’s always the loan market to utilise, as we’ve done with Edgar and, earlier in the season, Diego Poyet and Grant Holt.

Whatever happens in the next few days, though, all the talk will be about the match with our local rivals from Leeds United – and I’m with the fans, because I just can’t wait.
