First of all, what’s the latest on Brett Ferres’s ankle injury. Do you know the full extent of the damage yet?

We’re still at the stage where we know it’s bad and that he’ll be out for three or four months.

But whether he’ll require surgery remains to be seen.

It’s a bad syndesmosis injury, and we’re waiting to get an appointment with the surgeon.

We’re going to wait until things settle down with the injury a bit and then re-scan him to see what the next step is.

But Brett’s not good at all.

His injury was obviously caused by the illegal challenge by Rangi Chase. Do you go along with one school of thought that when a player suffers a lengthy injury spell as a result of an illegal challenge the guilty man should be banned until his ‘victim’ is fit to return?

Punishments should fit the crime and I suppose this could be seen as one way of doing just that, but I don’t really know, to be honest.

What I do know is that I’m still very angry over the whole Brett incident.

A couple of weeks ago I spoke to the match review panel regarding a tackle on Eorl Crabtree I wasn’t very happy about.

But I didn’t make a big thing of it, because I know it was in a game against a club who don’t practice those sort of things.

Unfortunately, there are other clubs out there who I know do practice these things.

As a club, we coach people to hit thighs and pull the knees together rather than attack a standing leg, which is what happened with Brett.

Our footage of the incident is at an angle which shows exactly how bad the hit on Brett actually is, so we’ve sent it on to the disciplinary for them to make their own minds up.

Brett apart, are the boys in good shape and how are the energy levels after the two games in four days over Easter?

Everyone’s ok, and the energy levels at training have been good.

This week we’ve been out on the field, the sun’s out, the grass has been cut and we’ve got some new posts on the pitch, which have all helped make things a lot more enjoyable.

It’s definitely far better than being out in the wind and the rain, which has been constant throughout pre-season training.

The better conditions have obviously allowed us to put some quality practice in to actually catching the ball and keeping hold of it, which is something that we’ve obviously been failing to do.

In the two games over Easter, we’ve had to make almost 800 tackles and come up with 40 errors, which is going to make it almost impossible to win any game.

To be honest, to come up with those statistics and still be within one score of winning is a credit to the boys, because it really is ludicrous the number of opportunities we’re giving people against us.

Everyone can see the quality in our squad is there, but we’re still not helping ourselves.

Against Hull KR, we created a mountain of chances and simply failed to take them, which is down to a lack of composure.

When things are going well you can ad lib a bit and play off the cuff, but when it’s not going so well that’s when you’ve got your structures to fall back on, which is what we need to do right now.

Are you glad your next game this week isn’t until Sunday ?

Yes.

I’d sooner rather be the Giants than Widnes this week, that’s for sure.

I don’t think the fixture planners have done them any favours giving them Catalans away on Monday evening and making them back up at Hull on Friday!

During the Easter period, it’s often the game after the Friday and the Monday that hits teams the hardest.

So we have to think ourselves fortunate that we’ve got a six-day turnaround.

And if we can get nearer making 300 tackles this week rather than 400, then we’ll give ourselves a great chance to win again.
