You promised it would be an uncomfortable review in the wake of the home defeat to Catalans. Do you think that’s the way the players found it?

I imagine it could have been a lot worse.

It was all about making sure everyone in the group fully understands what’s acceptable and what’s not acceptable, and acts accordingly.

They’re all fully aware that what happened last weekend was totally unacceptable, and that it’s up to them to make sure there’s no repeat.

And in this respect it’s all about showing some honesty.

I’m prepared to stick my hand up and not be scared to say what’s wrong from my point of view, and it’s a case of making sure that’s the same for us all.

The reality is that we’re one win from six, and that’s not the start anyone wanted.

As a group, we have a collective responsibility to do something about it.

Your cause against Catalans wasn’t helped by the dismissal of Joe Wardle for a high tackle. Since then, he’s been handed a two-game ban, what’s your reaction to that?

For a start, I want to again reiterate the fact that Joe’s sending-off can in no way be used as an excuse for the way things fell apart. Doing that would simply paper over the cracks.

But in relation to the two-match ban, all I can say is that we were given a fair hearing.

We did put forward a few things that we felt could help us have his offence downgraded.

But that was immediately thrown out, which we then knew would result in a two-game ban, and was also a factor in us deciding not to appeal the punishment.

Having said that, were you disappointed that Joe was sent off and got two games, but Krisnan Inu received only a sin-binning for a challenge that forced Eorl Crabtree’s early retirement from the game and has ruled him out of the Wakefield game and was then handed a three-match ban by the disciplinary panel?

To be honest, we’ve got more to worry about right now than decisions like this.

We have no control over the actions of the match officials or the judiciary, so there’s no point dwelling on it. Always looking back on what they’re doing achieves absolutely nothing.

Instead, we have to focus all our attention on the things we can control, which is obviously the way we play.

We have to make sure we concentrate 100% on getting our attitude right, get back to being strong defensively, run hard and find our front.

That’s what we need to keep focusing on, nothing else.

You obviously lost young prop Josh Johnson on the eve of the Catalans game due to a family bereavement. Does he feel up to playing at Wakefield?

He’s been named in the squad, and we’ve left the decision up to him.

Josh lost his grandad last week, and it’s hit him very hard, because he was very close to him and has been a big part of his life.

His grandad was a former rugby league player himself, Ken Payne, and he was a tough old thing.

I’ve spoken to Josh this week and told him we’ll be here to give him all the support he needs.

He’s a young lad and probably hasn’t lost anyone as close as his grandad, so we’re just giving him the time he needs, and we’re just leaving it up to him to tell us when he’s ready to go again.
