When it comes to making a New Year’s resolution, I have an idea for you.

Why not get involved in the sixth annual Pedal for Pounds bike ride, sponsored by our club partner Orchard Energy.

The two-day ride will start at Victoria Tower on Castle Hill in Almondbury at 10am on Friday May 1, finishing that day 70 miles away at Blackpool Tower.

On Saturday May 2, after our final game of the Skybet Championship season against the Seasiders, the ride will set off from Bloomfield Road and we’ll cycle back to the John Smith’s Stadium.

The ride will be 140 miles in total and supporters and staff will again be raising valuable funds for the ‘Keep It Up’ campaign, the club’s fundraising partnership between the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and the Huddersfield Town Academy.

Club chairman Dean Hoyle is certainly looking forward to it and is hoping as many fans as possible will join the event.

The closing date for entries is Monday, January 12, which is why I’m giving you the reminder now.

It’s a little bit different to the previous Pedal for Pounds rides in that it’s not being run over the best part of a week.

We are hoping that because it’s basically at the weekend, more people will want to become involved and, while you might think riding 140 miles in two days is a lot of ground to cover, I can assure you that anyone will be able to achieve it.

We’ve had a lot of people over the years taking part who have basically done no cycling whatsoever, but they have always enjoyed it, completed it and been delighted they decided to take part.

There is a £35 registration fee which includes a package for the event and full details are available either on the club website or by contacting Robyn Deegan at the club.

The club’s previous Pedal for Pounds rides have contributed over £750,000 to the £1m raised for the campaign since its inception in 2009 – so take it from me it’s a great event to be a part of.
