Thongsbridge Tennis club’s Gabriella Lindley has won the Waverley Highland Junior open.

The competition was for girls 10 and under, and Lindley claimed her first Grade 3 win, beating the No1 seed 4-1, 4-0 in the final.

Lindley also took the runner-up trophy in the North of England Tennis Championships Grade 3, after losing in the final 4-1, 4-1, but had a great win in the semi-final 4-2, 4-2.

She then had a third place finish in Courtstall Open Grade 3, losing out in the semi-final to the No1 seed 4-1, 4-2 before winning the third and fourth play off 4-1, 4-0.

Lindley was fourth place in the Westside Junior Open in London after qualifying into the main draw, and has also received a medal from the British Lawn Tennis Association for coming top of the winter county leaderboard in the girls Under 10, despite still being able to enter Under 9 events.

Thongsbridge clubmate Owen Lodge competed in his first Grade 2 event in Bolton and finished as runner-up in the consolation competition.

Lodge came through qualifying winning two of his three matches and in the main draw he faced Patrick Niedzwiedz and took the first set tie-break 8-6 but lost the next two 7-5, 7-5.

In the consolation draw where he played Ben Lim and won 7-4, 8-6 to reach the consolation final, where he played Sam Austin but lost narrwly 2-7, 10-8, 7-5.
