Thurstonland are carrying the flag for the Drakes League’s newcomers in the arrowselfdrive Sykes Cup.
The Holme Valley club were the only one of four new clubs to survive the preliminary round of the Cup, beating Paddock with the help of a century and five wickets from Mark Askham.
While Cartworth Moor, Birkby Rose Hill and Upperthong all bowed out, Thurstonland now go forward to meet holders Hoylandswaine in the first round on Sunday, May 4.
Cartworth were knocked out by Rastrick, Birkby Rose Hill fell to Cumberworth and Upperthong were beaten by Kirkheaton.
There was another century in the preliminary round, and it helped Denby Dale of the Cedar Court Conference spring a surprise by beating Jedi Sports Championship side Armitage Bridge.
Adam Rammell scored exactly 100 not out to help the Dale score a seven-wicket win after they’d been set 162 by the Bridge, Fred Stower taking four for 44 and Sam Tyas three for 14.
