Tom Brook produced an outstanding all-round performance to take Scholes five points clear at the top of the Drakes League Premiership.

His side were in trouble early on against Shelley at Chapelgate, losing the openers and prolific Joe Carter inside five overs with just 15 on the board.

But Brook played an excellently-timed 76 not out to take Scholes to 233-5 after Pete Drysdale and Toby Booth had steadied the ship in a solid 100-run partnership, scoring 67 and 51 respectively.

Shelley made a sound start in reply and were well placed – South African Sash Naidoo hitting 41 in classy style – but Brook got to work from the bottom end to take four for 61 and, with elder brother Josh picking up three for 44 at the top, Shelley eventually folded for 167.

Hoylandswaine moved within a point of second-placed Honley by defeating the Holme Valley side in a high-scoring clash at Haigh Lane.

SP Singh hit 74, Gharib Nawaz 70, Ben Potter 50 and keeper Alan Mynett 59 not out as Swaine recovered from 145-5 to reach 299 after being put in.

Honley then made decent progress but Potter struck with four for 40 and, with Yasir Abbas taking four for 86, Honley claimed a point at 254 all out.

Shepley moved up to fourth and ahead of Barkisland by beating them at Woodfield.

Shahzada Khan with four for 39 and Nasir Jamal with three for 26 did the damage as Barkisland were rolled for 107.

Tom Denton replied with 36 but Shepley had their problems against Chris Williams (four for 36) before getting over the line at 112-6.

Kirkburton openers Andrew Smith and Iqbal Khan were in impressive form to seal a 10-wicket win at Skelmanthorpe.

Smith hit 84 not out and Khan 78 not out to take Burton to 192-0 in reply to the home side’s 186 all out in which Liam Fletcher hit 66. Matt Crookes with an excellent five for 32 and Craig Fletcher with three for 38 did the business for the visitors.

At the bottom, Slaithwaite catapulted out of the relegation placings with a three-run home win against Moorlands.

Peter Lombard took four for 24 as Moorlands dismissed the home side for 152, but then skippe Chris Kilner took three for 26 and Aussie Matthew Bremner three for 41 to peg Moorlands just short, despite 46 from skipper Michael Rounding.

Wasim Qasim took six for 55 against his old side as Delph won at Elland after removing the home side for 169, in which Robyn Broom hit 50.

Greg Buckley with 69 and Grant Jones on 30 not out guided Delph to a two-wicket win.

Golcar remain at the bottom, although they did pick up two points at home to Broad Oak.

Mark Wilson had 34 not out but Golcar were all out for 140.

Tim Welsford with four for 30 and skipper Steve Whitwam with three for 12 did their best to defend the target, but their Colne Valley rivals got home with two wickets in hand thanks to an unbeaten 65 from Dan Taylor.

Armitage Bridge and Clayton West are now joint leaders of the Jedi Sports Championship after Thongsbridge fell to a fine 119 not out by Liam Wiles of Cawthorne.

Wiles effort took Cawthorne to a five-wicket win.

Armitage Bridge hit 227-8 at Linthwaite thanks to 69 from Jaycob Curtling and then held Linthwaite at 173 all out.

Fellow unbeaten side Clayton West looked to have their work cut out as Bilal Khiljee smashed 124 not out to lead Holmfirtyh to a 301-5 total.

But David Swan replied with 95 and Tom Barber 59 before Kiwi Kyle Hitchman carried his side to victory with 88 not out as they finished on 306-5.

Jack and Joe Smith were in fine form as Marsden beat Lascelles Hall while Almondbury Wes topped Kirkheaton and Meltham beat Almondbury by two wickets.

In the Cedar Court Conference, leaders Rastrick went clear as Jacob Waterson hit 116 not out in their winning 209-3 total at Thurstonland, where Chris Flanagan was 103 not out in their 206-5.

Previous joint leaders Hall Bower were beaten at home by Denby.
