Huddersfield boxer Tyrone Nurse’s British light-welterweight title clash with Chris Jenkins at Leeds Arena on Saturday night has been postponed after the Welshman pulled out because of food poisoning.

Instead the 25-year-old, who had stepped in to face Jenkins for the vacant belt after Scotsman Willie Limond pulled out through injury, will fight Manchester’s Liam Taylor in a 10-round catchweight contest.

“It’s disappointing for Tyrone and his fans, but Taylor is a good fighter and there is still a job to be done,” said Nurse’s trainer Chris Aston.

“Chris Jenkins collapsed in the gym and ended up on a drip in hospital.

“We explored every possible avenue to keep the title fight on the bill, but it couldn’t be done within the timescale.

“Obviously we are hoping it can be rearranged in the near future.

“It’s been a roller-coaster couple of days, but at least Tyrone still has a fight, and a decent one at that.”

Nurse will be chasing a 31st win in his 33rd professional bout on a bill topped by Leeds favourite Josh Warrington.

Taylor, 24, has won all 11 of his bouts, four by stoppage.
