Huddersfield fighter Tyrone Nurse is predicting a “cracking fight” against Tommy Coyle at Leeds Arena next week.

The 26-year-old is making the second defence of his British Light-welterweight title against the Hull puncher he knows well.

Victory could lead to a potential shot at Ricky Burns’ world title crown, but Nurse is right now focused only on the big Sky TV bill on Saturday week, July 30.

Josh Warrington may be the headline draw for the home Leeds support, but the Nurse-Coyle bout is also being given a big build-up in anticipation of a memorable contest.

“I’m feeling really good, but I’m always confident and I think it will be a cracking fight between me and Tommy,” said Nurse, who won the Lonsdale Belt against Chris Jenkins and defended it against Willie Limond in Glasgow last time out.

“I think our styles are going to gel well, and whether we decide to box or decide to go to war I think it will turn out a really good fight either way.”

Nurse has now fulfilled all his media commitments ahead of the fight and is now honing his preparation after top-notch sparring with Spanish champion Nicolas Gonzalez.

“Training has gone well and we’ve had the best sparring we could get against Gonzalez, who is unbeaten in 18 fights and going for the European title,” added Nurse.

“He is a good puncher who has had a lot of knockout wins in his career, and he was ideal for trying to emulate what Tommy Coyle does, only he was bigger, stronger and hits harder.

“So that side of things has been covered, I’m good with the weight and injuries are very minimal for a change, so it’s all looking good.”

Nurse will have one more public workout before stepping in the ring, and he’s keen to reward the fans who are going over from Huddersfield.

“I was already fit coming in to camp, because I basically had only a week off after my last fight,” he explained.

“Everything has gone well and now I’m just looking forward to completing our last few days of preparation and getting into the fight itself.”
