The new Pennine League season will get under way a week later than originally planned.

The start of the campaign should have been this Saturday (September 19), but it will now begin the following weekend.

League bosses announced the delay on the League’s website, explaining: “The Pennine League has made the difficult decision to defer the start of the season by a week due to the difficulty of transferring and re-registering players who play in summer-based competitions in such a small space of time.

“With the delay in the season, just one week’s worth of fixtures will be played until the Yorkshire Cup kicks-off on October 3. This is then followed by the Super League Grand Final.

“It is the league’s intention to issue a permanent fixture list up until the Christmas break, with cup games (Yorkshire, Pennine and District) played on the current dates set aside for the Yorkshire Cup.

“If clubs do not have a cup match on any of these dates then, where possible, a league fixture set aside for after the Christmas break may be brought forward.”

Six Huddersfield clubs will be starting this season’s Pennine League campaign, with Lindley Swifts, St Joseph’s and Underbank Rangers in Division I, Newsome Panthers and Emley Moor in Division III West and Meltham All Blacks in Division IV West.
