Wellington Westgate will hope to overcome Deighton WMC tomorrow in a semi-final tie of the Huddersfield FA Sunday Challenge Cup at Grange Moor.

It’s an 11am kick-off for the Kirklees Sunday League side against their Heavy Woollen opponents as they bid to make it to a third final this season.

That’s exactly what Welly achieved last season, so a ‘three-peat’ would be good.

Also tomorrow, Linthwaite Reserves play Dalton at Paddock Cricket Club in a quarter-final tie of the same competition.

The winners will face Linthwaite in the semi-finals at Grange Moor on April 24.

Holders Wellington ensured their passage to the final of the Get Smart Cup with a 3-1 victory over Dalton at Standiforth Rec (aggregate score 9-2).

However, Dalton made them fight all the way and had a lot of possession in the first half, with Ryan Gledhill given them the lead with a well-taken strike from the edge of the box just before half time.

Nathan Large looked dangerous for Dalton and Welly keeper Luke Haigh had to be on his toes.

Reece Nyland in Dalton’s goal (not the usual keeper) also pulled off some fine saves when called upon to keep Welly at bay, with Josh Ingham and Paul Pike going close for Welly.

After the break Welly took advantage of the wind at their backs, had the edge and created more chances, but Dalton’s defence did a sterling job, with last-ditch brave tackling.

Daniel Auckland, Connor Kaye and Andrew Mellor, in particular, were at the forefront of that.

On 62 minutes, Welly levelled when a Dalton defender lost his footing and Lee Bradshaw nipped in to score.

Six minutes later, further pressure yielded another for Welly when Jamie Jobarteh fired a powerful shot into the roof of the net.

Welly keeper Haigh coolly converted a 70th-minute penalty to put the game beyond Dalton’s reach.

For Dalton, two 17-year-olds deserve a special mention – Harry Walker and Jack Senior – who both played with great maturity for young players.

In the Lockwood Private Hire Trophy semi-finals first leg, Walkers Hounds easily defeated FC Nightingale 8-0 at Golcar.

The second leg is on April 10 at Reinwood Rec.

The winners will play Meltham Victoria Park in the final on Sunday, May 1, at Lepton Highlanders (2pm).
