WEDS PM: Swine flu contributed to death of Dewsbury teacher

HEALTH officials have revealed today that swine flu DID contribute to the death of a Dewsbury teacher. But they have confirmed that Abdullah Patel, was also suffering from other serious health problems.Dr Judith Hooper, Director of Public Health, NHS Kirklees, said: "Following the death of a man from Dewsbury, tests have shown that a contributory cause of death was swine flu (H1N1). The individual also had serious underlying health issues. "Our thoughts and condolences are with his family and friends at this time. "Our advice remains the same; for most people this is a mild illness and they should start to feel better after a few days without needing to go to their GP or A&E. "If people think they have Swine Flu, they should first go online and check their symptoms on www.nhs.uk , call NHS Direct 0845 46 47 or call the Swine Flu information line on 0800 1 513 513. If they are still concerned, they should then call their GP, who can provide a diagnosis over the phone."The death of Mr Patel, 42, was confirmed on Monday. It is believed he was a teacher at the Institute of Islamic Education, a private boarding school in Savile Town, Dewsbury. He was thought to have been suffering from lung and kidney problems. Health officials are currently trying to determine whether swine flu was a contributing factor in the death of nine-year-old Asmaa Hussain. She also suffered from a number of serious health problems.
