Clayton Fields
CLAYTON Fields campaigners formed an action group more than 10 years ago to protect the open space between Birkby and Edgerton from development.
After minor housing works in the 1990s the site was sold to current owner Paddico 267 Ltd.
In 1997 the Clayton Fields Action group succesfully applied for village green status, therefore safeguarding the site from development.
However in 2009, Paddico 267 Ltd applied for the village green status to be removed and after a four-day High Court hearing the order was revoked.
In July 2011 the site was fenced off by the developer and plant and machinery was active on the site leading to anger in the community.
The action group is now appealing the village green status order to see the fields returned to public use.
