Howard, Clegg's next door neighbour, made his first appearance in Catching Digby's Donkey (1984). He is usually to be found plotting his next liaison with the love of his life Marina.

He has adopted all kinds of disguises to escape from his long-suffering wife Pearl, including a spy, a fisherman, a hippy, half of a pantomime horse and most unconvincingly as a woman!
