Sid: John Comer

Married to Ivy, cafe owner Sid first appeared in the pilot episode and featured prominently during the series' first ten years. He was constantly harrangued by Ivy, who once described him as a "big fat buttuck."

Desperate for a little self-esteem, he tried his hand at, amongst others, snorkelling and daredevil driving. Eventually, he decided to go mobile with a fish and chip van in the 1983 special Getting Sam Home, his final appearance in the series.

Sid passed away, but Ivy remembers him with love when she constantly mentions him in conversation.
