Truly: Frank Thornton

Truly

Herbert Truelove, or Truly as he is better known, is Compo and Clegg's latest 'third man.' They all went to school together but Keggy Hemmingway kept putting worms down Truly's shirt, so he moved with his family down south.

Later he got a job with the police and became known as Truly of the Yard. He refers to cataching famous criminals such as the Hackney serial killer and says he would rather handle dead bodies than centipedes.

He was married to Mabel - 'the former Mrs Truelove' whom he compares to Max Wall, for over 30 years. They appear to have had a stormy relationship, to say the least.

Compo and Clegg meet up with Truly again at Ronnie's stag night in the 1997 Christmas Special There Goes The Groom.
