Dame Thora on shortlist for TV award

Veteran actress Dame Thora Hird is up for another award at the annual Royal Television Society Programme Awards later this month.

Dame Thora appears on the best female actor shortlist, in recognition of her role in Lost for Words.

The moving TV drama, written by Huddersfield author Deric Longden, has also been nominated in the single drama category. Its competitors include the acclaimed BBC1 drama Warriors, a gritty account of the plight of UN peacekeepers in Bosnia.

Lost for Words, based on the real life experiences of the writer and his mother after she suffered a stroke, as already won an International Emmy Award. It was presented to Deric at a glittering ceremony in New York last November.
