Village tour guide is a bestseller

A reprint is on the cards after a book of village walks proved a bestseller.

Raymond Masson

Author Raymond Masson, 80, a member of Honley Civic Society, was commissioned by the society to write the booklet.

The publication takes the reader on a walking tour of the village, pointing out notable historic details.

It has been printed by Huddersfield University and has been phenomenally successful.

Eight hundred copies were sold when it was launched shortly before Christmas and the civic society is already considering a reprint.

Mr David Allison, chairman of Honley Civic Society, said: "We have commissioned the booklet to try to make people in the village aware of what they are living amongst. Most of the time they are walking around, unaware of what is going on around them.''

Mr Masson (pictured) has previously written a book on 200 years of Honley Schools.

The civic society is also currently considering commissioning another book on the Hope Bank recreation ground now occupied by Brook Motors.

Copies of A Village Walk cost £1.50 and can be bought from shops in Honley and at Huddersfield bookshops.
