Is Nora Britain's top net pin-up?

Nora Batty - Queen of the Web

NORA BATTY is the star of an unusual popularity contest being fought over the Internet.

Web users across the world are clicking on to pictures of their favourite females as the search takes place for the woman whose image is downloaded the most times from the net.

British Internet users are being asked to support home-grown talent - in the comely form of Nora.

The wrinkled-stock-inged star of BBC TV's series Last Of The Summer Wine has been nominated as the nation's number one Internet babe.

Nora is up against America blonde bombshell Cindy Margolis, the current favourite, and Australian actress and model Sarah Jane for the title.

Radio Five Live presenter Fi Glover has launched Nora's candidacy.

"We want Nora Batty to be our queen of the web. Stand up for your country and click on Nora," says Fi on the Radio Five website.

"Australian actress and model Sarah Jane is aiming to become the world's most downloaded woman. And we're out to stop her."

Web surfers are asked to click on an image of Nora, or even put a Nora link on their own websites, so more people will learn about the campaign.

Another website supporting the effort is The Register which praises Nora for her: "Mastery of psychology, her speed, wit, broom handle and hairnet."
