Following in Compo's steps

Marina

ACTRESS Jean Fergusson, who plays Marina in the Last Of The Summer Wine, is to open an art exhibition.

Jean will open the British Society of Painters' Autumn Exhibition at the Winter Gardens, Ilkley, on Saturday, September 15.

The exhibition runs for nine days until Sunday, September 23 and is open from noon to 5pm.

The late Bill Owen, who played Compo in the series, performed the opening ceremony in his last public engagement two years ago.

A total of 225 artists will show 1,295 exhibits.

Seven Huddersfield painters have been selected to exhibit.

Rob Parsons, of Fixby, will be showing six paintings in oils and watercolours and Sheila Gilbert, of Emley, will exhibit five paintings in watercolours and pastels.

Holmfirth couple Maurice and Margaret Lockwood, will show a variety of pictures in pastels and watercolours. Martin Taylor, of Slaithwaite, who specialises in scenes of flowing water, especially in oils, will show two paintings of Lower Force on the River Tees in Teesdale.

Malcolm Beaumont, of Upper Denby, will exhibit six watercolours of wildlife and Patsy Earnshaw, of Scissett, will show six pictures in pastels, oils and watercolours of four landscapes and two still life scenes.
