Roy of the Summer Wine's MBE

Scriptwriter Roy Clarke

Television writer Roy Clarke, who penned every episode of Last Of The Summer Wine - Britain's longest-running sitcom set in the Holme Valley - was today receiving an OBE.

Mr Clarke, who has been writing the series since 1973, was to receive the honour for services to comedy drama at an investiture at Buckingham Palace.

He is also responsible for creating and writing other successful sitcoms, including Rosie, Open All Hours and Keeping Up Appearances.
