The shop, at Millfields House, opened in December and sells an assortment of second hand furniture and soft furnishings.

Mr Owen, son of Bill, who played Compo in the comedy series, is seen here with (left) hospice trustees' chairman Granville Sutton, shop manager Hazel Beaumont (right) and the shop's staff.

He was also in town to open the new Beatties department store in the Kingsgate Centre.

After the opening, Mr Owen went back to meet patients and have a drink with them and the trustees at the hospice in Dalton.

The Kirkwood Hospice furniture shop is open Tuesday to Sunday between 10am and 4pm.
