Nora Batty: Return to Summer Wine cast

LAST Of The Summer Wine enters its 31st year with a new series - and the return of one of its most loved characters.

Roy, who created Last Of The Summer Wine and has written it ever since, won the 2001 Lifetime Achievement Award at the Examiner's community awards.

He said at the time: "The programme's charm is that it is so old-fashioned and has never lost its fans."

He is now writing the follow-up to the new series.

Peter Sallis, who has starred as Clegg in Last Of The Summer Wine since it began, added: "When Bill Owen died we all thought privately `bang goes Last Of The Summer Wine', but Roy created new characters and it's still going strong."
