Dame Thora stroke shock

"She is a professional who lives and breathes for filming. As long as she is able we will keep her in the series.

"The writer, Roy Clarke, knows her limitations and he writes Edie in and out of the scripts to suit.

"The next filming is not due until June, so we will adopt the same work schedule.

"I know Dame Thora would love to be involved if she is able and we would love to have her."

Dame Thora made her first appearance on stage as an eight-week-old baby.

Her credits include 100 films, more than 60 stage plays and num- erous TV roles, including the play Lost For Words by Huddersfield author Deric Longden.

She has won the best actress title at the TV Baftas three times.
