`Everyone felt they knew Dame Thora'

Dave, of Cambridgeshire, wrote: "Thanks for the lovely memories that will live for ever and God bless you."

Irving and Melanie Mosby, from Philadelphia, said: "It is with sadness we read of Dame Thora Hird's passing. She was an accomplished actress. We have only seen her in Last of the Summer Wine and we immediately fell in love with her.

Steven Oliver, of the UK, wrote that she had a special talent and was a very versatile lady - an inspiration, especially in her later years, when her health began to fail. She never let it get to her.

"There's a lesson to be learned from her beliefs and attitude to life. We salute you, Dame Thora; you may be gone but you will never be forgotten. God Bless."

David, from Carrickfergus, Northern Ireland, wrote: "Sorry to hear of Thora's passing, but I know she is in a far better place.'

Wilma, from Bigelow, Arkansas, USA, said: "The Grand Dame led a wonderful life. I just hope and pray that my own life for God will be as strong."

Victoria and Sarah, from Birmingham, paid their tribute with: "We were sorry to hear the sad news of Thora Hird's death. Our thoughts go to her family and the cast and crew of Last of the Summer Wine."
