Tributes were paid today to showbiz veteran Danny O'Dea, who was in the series for 16 years.

He had been out of the programme for two years after retiring to live in a rest home in the Brighouse area.

Summer Wine director Alan J W Bell said: "Danny brought years of pantomime showbusiness experience into his performance and we shall miss him."

Danny O'Dea made his first appearance in Summer Wine in 1986 as an acquaintance of Wally Batty.
