But millions still tune in whenever the programmes are shown and such is their popularity that episodes of the series have become a cult success in the United States.

Indeed, American fans of the series will gather in Little Rock, Arkansas, next month for the first-ever American tribute festival to Summer Wine.

Bell said: "It has again been hard work but also very enjoyable.

"The cast and crew love working in the Holme Valley area, because it is so beautiful and the people are so friendly.

"We now move into the studios to put the finishing touches to the shows we are getting ready.

"I hope the Christmas special will go out in mid-December and the new series will have a date some time early in the New Year".
