Pearl's play 'in demand in USA'

A WEBSITE creator wants to see a stage play based on the series Last Of The Summer Wine taken to the USA.

The website created by Mark Mallender has launched a campaign to take Just Pearl across the Atlantic.

The play - written by Summer Wine writer Roy Clarke and performed at the Law- rence Batley Theatre last summer - is a monologue by Juliette Kaplan, who plays Pearl in the BBC TV series.

The website says it has received a large number of e-mails from American fans who would like to see the play tour the USA.

Mark said: "I saw the play in the summer of 2003 in Huddersfield and I thought it was fantastic - moving and funny. I knew at the time that the play had a huge potential to play in America and I hope we can make that happen."

The web address is: www.summer-wine. co.uk/justpearl

* Other websites are also seeing a surge in interest from the Continent, especially Holland

The increase is thought to be due to low-cost flights from Leeds and Bradford airport and Last Of The Summer Wine being shown on cable TV in Holland.

Summer-wine.com and its sister site Holmfirthweb.com, produced by Area 5 Public Relations, of Holmfirth, says it has seen an increase in hits and enquiries.

Many asked about accommodation.
