Son of Compo joins the drive for statue cash

LAST of the Summer Wine star Tom Owen will meet fans in Holmfirth at a fundraising drive for a memorial to his late father.

He will sign autographs in a day-long visit to boost the plans for a memorial to Compo, the character immortalised by Bill Owen in the comedy series.

An estimated £34,000 is needed for the life-size bronze statue. Tom Owen, who joined Summer Wine after his father's death in 1999, will be in Holmfirth on Saturday, February 28, to publicise the plans.

The fund now totals more than £5,000. A site has been earmarked in Kings Head Gardens, opposite the Wrinkled Stocking Tea Room.
