Youngsters enjoy their taste of Summer Wine

THERE will be a bigger audience than ever for Sunday's screening of Last Of The Summer Wine.

For joining the regular stars of the hit BBC1 comedy will be three Huddersfield area groups.

And they, and their families, will all be tuning in to see their moment of glory.

Sunday's episode, entitled The General's Greatest Battle, features youngsters from The Silver Stars Majorette Troop.

Also making a special guest appearance will be air cadets from 59 Squadron and 1466 Squadron, based in Huddersfield and Holmfirth respectively.

The episode features a special parade and the production team asked both organisations to help with the filming.

The Silver Stars, formed in 1998 by Mrs Pat Shepherd, of Sheepridge, include youngsters from the age of three.

They have taken part in the regular St Patrick's Day parades in Huddersfield and also in competitions for majorettes around the country.

Mrs Shepherd said: "The children thoroughly enjoyed the day of filming and the cast and crew were very nice."

The troop is trying to recruit new members for the various age groups.

The air cadets joined the regular characters, including Nora, Alvin, Clegg and Truly in a parade to commemorate a great battle.

Warrant Officer Greg Coles, of Huddersfield, said: "Appearing in a programme like this was a great experience for all the cadets involved- as well as watching how it was all put together."

The show goes out on Sunday at 6.20pm.
