BBC sitcom memorabilia goes on show

MEMORABILIA from long-running Holme Valley sitcom Last Of The Summer Wine will go on show at a Bradford museum.

An exhibition of Summer Wine photos, props and artefacts will be displayed at the SDC Colour Museum from September 13.

The exhibition will be entitled Colourful Characters, Colourful County.

It will also feature a video telling the story of the world's longest-running sitcom.

The show, written by Roy Clarke, has delighted audiences for 33 years.

The exhibition was the brainchild of museum curator Graham Alcock and a member of museum staff, whose wife works for the Summer Wine production team.

Mr Alcock said: "Between us we came up with the idea and the BBC were pleased to get involved.

"We've also worked closely with the programme's producer Alan J W Bell and the people of Holmfirth.

"It's not just about publicising the show it is publicising the area too.

"The series enjoys a huge following and the exhibition can only enhance the profile of the SDC Colour Museum."

A special opening of the exhibition will take place for invited guests on September 12.

Members of the Summer Wine cast will be there, including Nora Batty actress Kathy Staff and Peter Sallis who plays Norman Clegg.

Cast members will also attend the exhibition on other occasions before it ends at Christmas.

The museum, in a former wool warehouse in the centre of Bradford, is run by the Society of Dyers and Colourists.

It looks at people working with colour - be it in fashion, design, retail or science.

Its premises, in Providence Street, Bradford, include two galleries, fully accessible to disabled people.
