Betting on wife trouble

THIS chap was sitting at the kitchen table having his breakfast when his wife came up behind him and smacked him over the head with a frying pan.

“Ow,” he said. “What was that for?”

“That’s because I found this piece of paper in your coat pocket with the name Mary Ellen on it.”

“Don’t be silly,” he said. “That’s the name of a horse I backed when I went to York races last week.”

“Oh dear,” said his shamefaced wife. “I am sorry.”

Two days later, the chap was sitting at the kitchen table having his breakfast when his wife came up behind him and smacked him over the head with a frying pan even harder than before.

“Ow,” he said. “What was that for?”

“Your horse phoned,” said his wife.
