Genes may be making people lazy

SCIENTISTS have developed a test for laziness.

They say a reluctance to get out of bed in the morning could be down to your genes.

Some people are genetically programmed to rise early and others to wake up later.

And pretty soon a test kit may be on the market to find out if you have sleep-in genes that you can’t help, or are just lazy and prefer to stay in bed out of choice. Apparently, it’s all down to your circadian rhythm, which is your natural wake and sleep pattern.

This means if you are late for work you could say to your boss, “Sorry. But I slept in. It’s a medical condition, you know. My circadian rhythm is two hours out of synch.”

Which sounds like a pretty reasonable excuse.

Until your boss nips down to Boots and comes back with a circadian test kit and a breathalyser and discovers your rhythm is as steady as a rock but the reason you stayed in bed might have something to do with the 10 pints of lager and a dodgy kebab you had the night before.
