Denis: Seaside visit? Don't bank on it!

IT’S Bank Holiday Monday and I am staying away from the seaside, avoiding public places, DIY stores or anywhere I might get stuck in traffic or caught in a rain shower while wearing only shorts, vest and knotted hankie.

Not that I have ever worn shorts, vest and knotted hankie. Well, perhaps when I was five and my mother made me.

Gone are the days when I am tempted to head for Scarborough for bracing air and fish and chips or York and the delights of Betty’s Tea Rooms.

Today the queue will stretch to Tadcaster and even I’m not that fond of toasted teacakes.

No, I am staying comfortably at home with a good book, will walk down for an early evening drink and be home in time for New Tricks on TV.

A perfect way to spend any bank holiday.
